Stream Typing Survey

The Tulalip Tribes' stream-typing crews are conducting surveys of all mapped and unmapped surface waters in the Snohomish River basin. Currently all flowing waters are classified into one of five types depending upon the degree to which fish depend upon and/or use the watershed. Many of these streams have been classified without the benefit of actual surveys, and it is therefore thought that many of the current classifications may be wrong. In this project the correct location and type of all surveyed surface waters, along with data on all anadromous and resident fish observed, will be used to update Washington State's water type maps. These maps are used to assist in determining the amount of protection a stream receives when changes in land use are proposed.
